Influencers work really hard to cultivate relationships with their target audience and maintain their status as thought leaders within their niche. Partnering with influencers in your industry helps to get your message in front of the right audience and accelerates conversions.

How do you know who the influencers are in your industry?

Here are four critical questions you should ask yourself to identify thought leaders in your niche.

  1. Do they provide content relevance?

Does the influencer create content relevant to your industry? The influencer’s content and your own content should be written for the same target audience. Your influencer should be a perfect contextual fit for you.    

  1. Do they have a large following and ability to engage with the target audience?

To be considered an influencer, you have to have influence. That’s typically measured in quantity of followers. Your target influencer should have an audience of thousands at least. But a huge audience does not always indicate a thought leader. The ability to engage with the audience on a regular basis is an important factor in identifying a true thought leader. An influencer is always engaging with his or her followers by being helpful, answering questions and encouraging comments.

  1. Does the influencer have the ability to cause action?

People choose to follow influencers. A person’s ability to make followers act with certain calls for action (subscribe, download an e-book, follow, etc.) is a true indication of a thought leader.

  1. Do they rank high in searches?

You cannot be an expert in your field and influence other people without having a professional site. An influencer’s site should rank high in search results. High ranking for particular keywords indicates that influencer is a good fit for you.
