Job Summary

Axia Public Relations seeks a senior public relations account manager (PR manager) with previous agency experience who is an optimistic, can-do team player, a self-starter, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively.

Axia works with ambitious medium-sized companies and large global enterprise corporations. The PR manager handles day-to-day PR activities for assigned clients. The PR manager is expected to become fully familiar with the products, services, geographic markets, industries, and target media of their assigned clients to efficiently manage their needs.

The PR manager reports to the president (or the PR vice president or PR director, when applicable).

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, update, oversee, and implement annual, quarterly, monthly, and project PR plans and budgets for assigned clients for internal and client approval.
  • Coordinate with the relevant account teams and client personnel to ensure Axia and its clients stay updated on PR activity.
  • Write, enhance, and distribute PR materials (news releases, media advisories, news stories, media kits, product sheets, bylined articles, media pitches, opinion articles, feature stories, blog posts, and case studies) for Axia and clients.
  • Coordinate media outreach and secure placements in print, digital, and broadcast media.
  • Create and review media-monitoring reports from service bureaus daily; share relevant clips and reports with clients when appropriate.
  • Monitor competitive PR activity and industry trends to provide proactive insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Track and report on campaign performance (compiling media clippings, sentiment analysis, and key performance metrics).
  • Anticipate and identify PR opportunities for existing clients and new opportunities for Axia among current and prospective clients; maintain a business presentation ready for use.
  • Provide the supervisor with daily, weekly, and monthly overviews of clients’ activities, plans, and future developments; inform the supervisor immediately of any potentially significant issues (crises, deadlines, client/Agency relations, budgets, etc.).
  • Obtain supervisor approval for all PR expenses and travel (if required) at appropriate stages before client presentations.
  • Review meeting agendas with the supervisor before client meetings.
  • Prepare and distribute client conference reports within 24 hours of each meeting or call warranting a documented summary.
  • Represent Axia and clients at industry functions when appropriate, promoting them at every opportunity.
  • Maintain computer skills required for Axia’s daily functions. Notify the PR director of any training needs or necessary purchases (hardware, software, tools, service upgrades, etc.).
  • Supervise interns, an internship program, freelancers, vendors, and employees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Focus

The PR manager focuses on achieving accurate and timely PR results that support established organizational standards. Previous agency experience is required. Necessary qualifications for successful job performance include drive, determination, and taking responsibility for following policies and procedures.

The work environment is structured, but every day is unique. Job expectations are well-defined and supported by self-initiative, training, and on-the-job experience. The job requires accomplishing tasks quickly and handling a variety of activities within a clear scope. While the pace of the work is faster than average, the PR manager never compromises the timeliness and quality of results. Because of the fast pace, the PR manager must learn and master job-related knowledge and responsibilities quickly and thoroughly.

The PR manager must have an active, positive response to challenges and time pressures. The nature of the work requires quick decision-making based on pertinent information and an intention to minimize risk factors. Careful, critical analysis of new ideas or innovations is important to ensure any changes support established practices.

Communication is expected to be factual and authoritative, focused on continual problem-solving to overcome any obstacles to achieving high-quality, timely results.

If the job requires delegation to others, the PR manager should provide staff with a positive, supportive environment for learning the tasks and procedures necessary to meet quality standards.

Axia’s job environment provides recognition and rewards for the steady broadening of responsibilities, based on initiative, proven competence, and adherence to well-established business practices.
