An open public dialog about child sexual abuse is difficult. When the terrible news about Jerry Sandusky’s child sexual abuse made headlines, there was a need to shed light and break the silence surrounding child sexual abuse. Axia provided a helpful expert to the media, and the media relations campaign led to Angela Williams landing several national news media interviews.

The business challenge

Nonprofits often struggle to share their stories among the noise of other companies and newsworthy topics. There’s also a negative stigma about discussing child sexual abuse. That’s why VOICE Today (now Angela’s Voice) sought after Axia Public Relations.

The solution

VOICE Today needed to educate the public about their healing services and support for child sexual abuse survivors. Axia took the opportunity to newsjack the story by connecting with its national media contacts as the Sandusky trial began. The client provided an expert on the lingering damage sexual abuse victims suffer via in-person interviews with CNN Headline News and Tru TV In Session later the same day.

The results

Angela Williams' two appearances caused a near-instantaneous response from viewers with emails and phone calls to VOICE Today to schedule news interviews, share their personal stories, and seek help from VOICE Today. Additional interview requests included The 700 Club as well as local media outlets. The news stories reached more than 300,000 people across the country.
